The city of Lucca hosts different important events, from art and culture, heritage, music and theatre to name but a few. One of the biggest and most famous is the Lucca "Comics & Games" festival. This is an annual comics book and gaming convention. With around 140 thousand visitors, it offers an assorted mix of trade stalls, talks, screenings, workshops, exhibits and phantasmagoric on-street parties.
Lucca is also the birthplace of the composer Giacomo Puccini, whose operas, La Bohème, Tosca and Madame Butterfly are among those frequently performed all over the world. The city is renowned to host a rich calendar of music events all over the year. The Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago, 18 km from Lucca, welcomes about 40,000 spectators every year to its open-air theatre, just a few steps from the Villa Mausoleum where Giacomo Puccini lived and worked. His mortal remains are now in a small chapel inside the Villa.
Every year the "Lucca Summer Festival" hosts an incredible line-up of international stars for live preformaces in Piazza Napoleone. These outdoor concerts held on a summer evening are an incredible experience. Past stars have included Anastacia, Lenny Kravitz, Moby etc.
